Program Management Governance (100% Online)

This course can be applied to the UBC Certificate in Program Management.

Governance is a management method that is used to develop, communicate, implement, and monitor the organizational structures, policies, procedures, practices, and other acts to run a program. Governance ensures decision-making and delivery management activities are focused on achieving program goals in a consistent manner, addressing appropriate risks and fulfilling stakeholder requirements. This course focuses on the governance portion of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) program management standard. You explore the challenges of program governance and how it integrates with program stakeholder management and benefits realization.

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • identify the tools and techniques of Program Governance per the PMI Program Management Standard
  • identify a Project Selection Criteria model to determine project prioritization based on government mandates, contractual obligations, strategic alignment, benefits and ease of implementation
  • identify patterns that indicate the effectiveness of a governance model and ensure compliance of all parties
  • define a decision gate to move from one phase of a project/program to another including the various entrance and exit criteria

Note: This is a fundamentals course that prepares you for the next four courses in the UBC Certificate in Program Management by introducing key terminology and concepts that are explored in more detail in subsequent courses.
