Born and raised in China, Lang Sun obtained his first university degree from Anhui University, China and served as national tour guide, translator and interpreter for 5 years. He came to Canada in 1987 to pursue his graduate studies in French at UBC and then to complete the Professional Development Program as a secondary French immersion teacher at Simon Fraser University in 1991. Prior to coming to UBC Continuing Studies as Program Director for Languages, Cultures and Travel in 2005, Lang served as senior manager in an international investment consortium in Hong Kong and taught languages and bilingual court interpreting programs at Canadian secondary and post secondary institutions for over 15 years.
As an educator in second language acquisition and teaching, Mr. Sun has devoted himself extensively to learning as well as providing pedagogical leadership to colleagues in the area of second language acquisition. In addition to major Chinese dialects, Lang speaks several languages fluently. He communicates his enthusiasm for speaking languages to thousands of adult learners each year.
As the Asia-Pacific Program Director of Languages, Cultures & Travel, Mr. Sun has developed and launched several new Asia-Pacific language and culture programs at UBC, working closely with UBC Asian Studies as well as community partners.
