The Instructional Skills Program for International Teaching Assistants (ITA) supports those who are new to North American culture and who speak English as an additional language. It is designed to assist scholars in developing the skills to successfully transition into Canadian academic settings, both in the classroom and as members of their departments.

The program welcomes participants who are currently at UBC as:

  • international teaching assistants
  • international graduate students
  • post-doctoral researchers
  • international fellows
  • visiting scholars.

This program assists participants to:

  • become more confident and effective as instructors at UBC
  • develop practical skills to excel in their academic studies
  • gain a deeper understanding of Canadian academic culture.
