The Global Career Foundations (GCFP) program combines academic lectures and specialized workshops, skill-building activities, projects, presentation assignments and an unpaid internship* with a local company or organization. All students also take a full-time foundational course, English for the Global Citizen, at the UBC Continuing Studies English Language Institute. GCFP is a full-time, 16-week program with approximately 480 hours of structured activities in the classroom, workplace and community.

Through GCFP, you will gain the experience and skills needed to work in an international setting after you graduate. Combining English language and academic study with a workplace internship provides you with the ability to better bridge the cross-cultural challenges that face today's integrated global economy.

Program Price
$6,800 CAD
Note: Program fee does not include accommodation, airfare, permit application fees, local transportation, medical insurance, optional activities and other personal expenses and is subject to change.
Payment Schedule
A program deposit (equivalent to 20% of the program fee) is due upon receipt of the first program invoice.
The remaining balance (equivalent to 80% of the program fee) is due 30 days prior to the first day of the program.
A Letter of Acceptance is issued by UBC Continuing Studies upon receipt of your deposit payment.
Topics centre around themes related to communication and cross-cultural issues that face today's enterprises, critical thinking approaches to workplace dynamics, presentation and public speaking essentials and those focused on workplace best practices. Program instructors possess subject matter expertise and have international experience in business, research and education.
The GCFP program is divided into two terms:

All students must also complete the foundational English for the Global Citizen course at the UBC Continuing Studies English Language Institute. |

There are approximately 480 hours of structured activities in the classroom, workplace and community. Expect to be in class from 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday. Additional time may be spent on team project meetings and individual study time as required for each module. Course hours listed below reflect instructional hours only.
Note: The course format and curriculum, including topics covered and assignments may be subject to change in order to accommodate the level of expertise and needs of the learners. Workplace placements and hours of work are subject to confirmation by the host employer and will be confirmed on an individual basis with each student.

Assessment
Program assessment is based on attendance, active participation and successful completion of all assignments, projects, presentations, e-portfolio and workshop deliverables as outlined at the start of each module.

Refunds and Cancellation Policy
A full refund, less a $175 CAD administration fee, is possible up to 14 days before the first day of the program. A full refund, less a 15% administration fee (based on the program fee), is possible between one (1) to 13 days before the first day of the program.
You must notify UBC Continuing Studies in writing when requesting a refund and return any acceptance letters provided. Refund requests are subject to the approval of the Administrative Supervisor. Refunds are not possible once a program has started unless there are approved extenuating circumstances.
In the event that UBC Continuing Studies cancels a program due to insufficient enrollment or other causes, the full amount (less bank transaction charges) would be refunded.
UBC Continuing Studies reserves the right to make changes to the schedule and program without notice.
Application Process

| 1 | Submit your online application. Please read the application form very carefully and provide correct spelling of your legal name as it appears on your passport in order to be processed by the admissions committee. Incomplete applications may be refused. |
| 2 | Receive an automatically generated email that confirms your application form was successfully sent. |
| 3 | Receive an email from a UBC Continuing Studies Internship Coordinator to setup up a telephone or video interview. The interview will assess your language level, attitude and internship interests. |
| 4 | Wait three to five business days for notification of your interview results. |
| 5 | Receive an email with information on how to pay the program deposit to secure your seat. |
| 6 | Upon receipt of the program deposit, you will be issued a Letter of Acceptance from UBC Continuing Studies. You will need this letter to apply for necessary study and work permits. To determine eligibility and average processing times, visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website. |
