Policies

UBC Continuing Studies refund and other policies can be viewed here. For specific language, culinary arts, understanding wine and travel program policies, please read below.

Cancellation

Language Courses: If you need to withdraw from a part-time course, you must notify our office in writing 48 hours after the first class. A $50 administration fee is deducted from refunds for part-time courses. No refunds will be considered after this time. If you have received any course materials, they must be returned in excellent condition or you will be charged $25 for the cost of the materials in addition to the administration fee.

Culinary Arts and Understanding Wine Courses: If you would like to withdraw from a course, please submit written notice three business days before the course begins to be eligible for a refund (less a $50 administration fee). No refund will be made for cancellations received later than three business days before the course begins.

Summer Institutes: For the one- to three-week language summer institutes and the one-week culinary arts and understanding wine programs, you must withdraw in writing at least one week before the beginning of the program. A $100 administration fee is deducted from each refund; no refunds are possible after the deadline.

Certificate Programs have special refund policies. The $500 application fee is non-refundable and course fees are non-refundable except when a course or section is cancelled. Please call the office at 604-822-0802 for further details.

Destination and Immersion Travel have special refund policies. All deposits are non-refundable except when a course is cancelled. Please call the office at 604-822-0800 for further details.

Discounts

Participants 65 and Over and UBC Students
Those 65 or older will receive a $25 discount on registration. Proof of age may be requested at time of registration. UBC Students also qualify for a $25 discount. A valid student card must be provided upon registration. These discounts are not available through online registration. Please call 604-822-0800 to register.

Participants Registered in More than One Course in One Term
Select two courses in one term and receive a registration discount of $75. Only one discount can be applied. UBC employees using Staff Tuition Fee Benefit Waiver do not qualify for multiple course discounts.

UBC Continuing Studies Partnership with Vancouver International Film Centre
Enhance your language education by viewing films at the Vancouver International Film Centre on Seymour Street. In partnership with VIFC, we are offering free memberships for language students as well as a complimentary ticket per term for a film in the language you are studying.

The Vancouver International Film Centre and Vancity Theatre is an exciting new centre of excellence for Vancouver's film lovers. The 175-seat theatre boasts state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment, plush seats with more than ample legroom and a stunning glass atrium. Besides being home to the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Vancity Theatre will present some of the best local, national and international films year-round.
