If you have specific objectives in the program you are taking, your experienced instructor will incorporate your request in the course outline. Additional learning materials may also be provided for you to use between classes.
4. Learn at Your Own Pace
Tailor your learning at UBC with the guidance of your instructor. You can choose to change levels during a session or repeat a level for more practice.
5. Never Miss a Class
If you need to be absent from a language class due to other commitments, you can replace it during the same session by attending a class at your level at another time. A program assistant is present at all class times to direct you to the appropriate class, help you with program objectives or answer questions related to your training.
6. No Additional Charge for Course Materials
Course materials, often designed by our own instructors, are included in the course fee. These materials are an integral part of the program and are not available for purchase separately. You also have access to our online resources for extra learning support.
7. Recognition of Your Achievement
You can request a letter of attendance stating your language level at the end of a session provided your attendance meets the course requirements.
8. Classroom Locations
Our state-of-the-art classroom space at UBC Robson Square as well as the Buchanan Building at the Point Grey campus will enhance your learning experience.
9. Certificate Programs
For a more comprehensive approach to language learning, consider taking one of our UBC certificate programs. These programs are offered in a part-time format to accommodate the schedules of working professionals and incorporate the best of both in-person and distance education. Certificate programs are available in French Language and Culture, Practical and Business Spanish, and Translation and Interpretation.
10. Consulting Services

12. UBC Continuing Studies Alliance with Vancouver International Film Centre
Enhance your language education by viewing films at the Vancouver International Film Centre on Seymour Street. In partnership with VIFC, we are offering free memberships for language students as well as a complimentary ticket per term for a film in the language you are studying.
The Vancouver International Film Centre and Vancity Theatre is an exciting new centre of excellence for Vancouver's film lovers. The 175-seat theatre boasts state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment, plush seats with more than ample legroom and a stunning glass atrium. Besides being home to the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Vancity Theatre will present some of the best local, national and international films year-round.
