Team Project
The team project runs concurrently with the instructional sessions, allowing participants to put the theory and techniques learned into practice. The team project is considered an integral part of the program experience and serves to bring together participants with complementary skills and interests to apply their collective knowledge. Aside from emulating a teamwork environment that mirrors real-life work situations, the team project should result in participants leaving the program with a project plan to include in a professional portfolio.

Teams are usually four to five members in size and are pre-selected based on backgrounds and experience to ensure that there is a reasonable balance and mix within the teams. Expect to spend about nine to twelve hours per week working on team assignment work, and individual assignments, which can be completed mainly within the allotted class time.

Team Work and Peer Evaluations
Projects are inherently team based activities. The ability to work with others in a cooperative and collaborative way is one of the keys to successful project management. To reflect this reality, both the part-time and full-time programs include a team project. Spread over the duration of the program, the assignments allow students to work in teams while exercising the skills learned in class. To promote effective team work and to allow course participants to develop their teamwork skills, team members enter into a “team agreement” that specifies the terms of reference within which the team will function. In support of that agreement a 360 degree feedback process is used throughout the program to provide a method for team members to provide feedback to each other. The process is designed to provide constructive information that can help individuals understand how their efforts are perceived by their colleagues. The 360 degree feedback process is an integral part of the assessment system for the team-based assignment. The marking schema takes into account team feedback and the contributions to the team made by individual team members.

Course Objectives

  • demonstrate understanding of project management – i.e. application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a set of project activities to meet project requirements.
  • demonstrate understanding of project management processes and process groups – i.e. initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing.
  • demonstrate understanding of and ability to put in place processes that allow participants to manage the competing demands for scope, time, cost, risk and quality.
  • demonstrate understanding of the various team project stakeholders, their needs and expectations.
  • demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge of project management and create a successful and practical solution to one of the options in the team project.
  • demonstrate the ability to work successfully as part of a team.
