Writing Student Feedback

"In 2003, I graduated from university with a vague sense of wanting to work in the book publishing industry. Michael Katz recommended that I take his course [Children's Book Workshop] at UBC. If I liked what the course taught me, we could discuss a possible future internship at Tradewind Books.

His course gave me a comprehensive look at the publishing process from acquisitions and editorial to sales and marketing. He also invited local authors and illustrators to speak about their experiences during class. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to learn the ins and outs of children's book publishing.

Needless to say, I went on to doing an internship at Tradewind Books where Michael continually challenged me with tasks designed to give me hands-on experience in every aspect of his publishing house. Today, I'm still in publishing, and I owe my current career path to Michael."

"I absolutely loved that class [Report and Business Writing]. This is exactly what I needed at this point in my career. It was amazing to see the progress in my assignments over the course and great writing letters that I would never thought that I was capable of. It was amazing to be able to use what we learn the next day at work. Thank you very much."

"I've taken Continuing Ed. courses in creative writing with Susan Juby and Lee Henderson (among others) over the last two years. I really enjoyed the classes and felt that they gave me some great momentum to keep writing on my own. I want to thank the Writing Centre for providing such a great atmosphere for exploring creativity."

"I have now taken 3 of your [Life into Fiction] classes and have seen the growth and change in my writing. Looking back I have seen how much I have grown and how I used to write around a subject rather than delve right into it. Thank you so much."
