Introduction to Langue des Signes Québécoise

La Langue des Signes Québécois is the official sign language used by members of Francophone Canada's Deaf communities, with native signers in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick. Like American Sign Language (ASL), LSQ is a visual sign language with a rich history and culture.

Join this free online workshop to learn about LSQ's context and history in French-speaking Canada as well as some common and important signs. Build your awareness about issues and topics important to LSQ users throughout Canada.

This workshop is sponsored in part by UBC's Centre de la Francophonie and requires a Lower Intermediate level of French. ASL learners or users who also speak French will find it interesting to learn about another Canadian sign language and its culture.

LSQ-French interpretation will be provided for part of the workshop. The rest will be taught in an immersive setting with written French aids.
