Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy - Introducing MBCT in your Clinical Work

Benefit from an introduction to the promise and challenges of using mindfulness meditation with your clients who suffer from depression and anxiety. While the practice of meditation can appear deceptively simple, a key challenge for clinicians is how to conceptualize and deliver these techniques to clients in a way that best realizes the potential benefits of mindfulness meditation.

In this interactive workshop of didactic instruction, personal practice and inquiry/group discussion, explore how to use mindfulness meditation in therapy. Learn about:

  1. research supporting the use of mindfulness in mood and anxiety disorders;
  2. how to introduce mindfulness meditation to your clients;
  3. core mindfulness practices;
  4. how to support clients in their mindfulness practice; and
  5. how to balance acceptance and change-based approaches.

With the ever-growing evidence base for mindfulness-based interventions in treating depression and anxiety, there is a growing clinical interest among psychologists in using mindfulness meditation with their clients.  These acceptance-based approaches, such as Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, originally developed as a group-based intervention, are delivered via a mindfulness-based platform. This course offers an introduction to the platform and includes information on next steps toward certification.
