Over a 4 week period, focus your MI learning in a virtual, supported peer environment. Share your passion with other helping professionals to delve deeper in understanding and integrating MI into practice. Key topics will be identified for learners to reflect on and engage in exchange with other helping professionals. An MI trainer will offer a weekly collective response that summarizes the group’s learnings and expands further thinking.
Preparation (30 mins)
Set up profile, acquaint with technology, review online course guidelines
Week 1: Counseling with Neutrality (4 hrs)
This module clarifies what is meant by counselling with neutrality and using an MI-informed approach when the intention is to avoid influencing the direction of a particular change.
Week 2: MI and Assessment (3.5 hrs)
This module applies an MI approach and strategy to the assessment process, enhancing initial engagement and overall retention, while still meeting program and service needs.
Week 3: MI in Groups (3.5 hrs)
This module explores adapting MI’s skills and strategies to group settings, and strategically using MI skills to strengthen engagement in groups.
Week 4: Exploring MI Resources (3.5 hrs)
This module expands knowledge and understanding of the scope of MI resources available to helping professionals to continue their learning.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Motivational Interviewing for Helping Professionals (LC702) or equivalent practice and experience is required for this course.
This course is approved for 15 CECs by the CCPA.
