Writing 098 helps you develop university-level communication and composition skills. It is helpful for people from a variety of backgrounds, including those planning to take university writing courses, such as English 112 or WRDS 150, or those who need to write the Language Proficiency Index (LPI). It’s also useful for mature students planning to return to school after an absence.
By examining model essays and completing several written assignments, you develop confidence in writing papers and exams. Topics include parts of speech, sentence and paragraph structure, and the writing and revision of at least five in-class essays.
Most students who attend class regularly and complete all the assignments achieve a higher score on the LPI. Writing 098 students who meet the course requirements also receive an extended LPI deadline and priority on waiting lists for first-year English courses in September.
