Being conversant in Mandarin and able to read and write in Chinese characters can expand your career options, and help you to build relationships with colleagues, clients and neighbours.

The UBC Award of Achievement in Chinese is a part-time program that helps you improve your Mandarin language skills, enhance your knowledge of Chinese culture, prepare for travel and increase your career opportunities.

  • Format: 100% online or a combination of in-person and online study
  • Duration: A minimum of four courses, eight to nine weeks each, to be completed within 16 months
  • Cost: $405−$600 per course, approximately $1,915-$2,355 for the program, including the non-refundable application fee

My instructor was passionate about us as students and she inspired everyone; I was truly honoured to be in her class. She taught us poems and a classic folk song in Mandarin, which was fun, meaningful from a cultural perspective, and inspired me to learn more.
